Celery may protect against cancer

Celery contains flavonoids, which are very powerful phytonutrients with antioxidant (cancer fighting) properties. While this is no way a cure for cancer, those who are prone to cancer may want to consider integrating celery juice into their diet.

Several studies have investigated the anti-cancer effects of apigenin, a phytochemical found in celery. It has been shown to suppress cancer cell proliferation in various types of tumours, including pancreatic, colorectal, liver, blood, lung, cervical, prostate, breast, thyroid, skin, head, and neck. Because inflammatory molecules modulate the physiological and pathological states of cancer and its surrounding microenvironment, and tumour initiation is said to occur as a result of prolonged exposure to inflammatory conditions, inhibition of inflammatory molecules could be a promising approach to managing cancer.

According to recent evidence, apigenin is able to reduce cancer cell glucose uptake, inhibit remodelling of the extracellular matrix, inhibit cell adhesion molecules that participate in cancer progression and hinder the development of blood vessels needed by growing tumours. It is reported to protect against a wide variety of cancers.
